born in Shanghai, Weiwei Xu is a composer & sound artist. she focuses on different aspects in composition: instrumental timbre, recorded sounds, improvisation, and design temporal structure, think within and beyond the convention - rationality, sensitivity, fragility, spontaneousness, and indeterminacy.

weiwei studied composition with Peter Edwards at the National University of Singapore - Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, with Klaus Lang and Beat Furrer at the Kunstuniversität Graz.

She is awarded with Jahresstipendium from Kunst uni Graz & full tuition grant from National University of Singapore - YSTCM.

her music compositions have been realized and performed in Singapore, Germany, Austria, Norway, Spain and China (Shanghai) in various contemporary and new music event, including ECLAT - SÜDSAITENACHTS, 200 JAHRE BEWEGTE LUFT, INVISIBLE DRIVE #5, FACERE CITY TOUR, FACERE IN MARIATROST, HERE AND NOW AND ANYPLACE ELSE, STIKK INNOM FESTIVAL, szene instrumental ''GRAZER URAUFFÜHRUNG 8'', MESSAGE MUSIC, HOWEVER RELATING, BETWEEN FEATHERS - CHANGING LIGHTS, VERTIXE SONORA LATEXOS DA AUGA, MUSIKPROTOKOLL 2021 - ENSEMBLE ZEITFLUSS CONCERT, KONTRAPUNK!... 

 

she has collaborated worldwidely with professional ensembles: yang xun, ensemble ascolta, facere, Maria Mogas Gensana, Stephanie Schoiswohl, ensemble zeitfluss, ensemble Schallfeld...

after returning to Shanghai, she has worked as assistant to pianist LI JIAN, and as curator and project manager at the Shanghai West Bund Museum.
